OKEENE — FCCLA dinner will be served 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 28 at Okeene school cafeteria. The meal will feature roast, ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, green beans, hot rolls, drinks, and desserts. Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for ages 10 and younger and free for children younger than 5. Carryouts will be available.

Okeene High School was honored as state academic champs for the fifth consecutive year during the finals of the OSSAA state basketball playoffs. The team had an accumulative GPA of 3.737.
Team members and administration and staff to accept the award included Superintendent Ron Pittman, High School Principal Jeremy Osmus, Coach Shane Feely, Assistant Coach Mark Fuller, Assistant Coach Travis Turner, Robbie Geary, Sean Fuller, Cody Day, Kaleb Cusack, Ryan Osmus, Derrick Miles, Chris Young, Garrett Detrixhe, Brett Wardlaw, Garrett Lorenz, Connor Cusack, Tanner Bedwell, Ky Fisher and Jarrod Cross.

Colby Carter is a second-grade student at Okeene Elementary who competed in the local Cimarron Valley Conservation District Poster Contest, winning first place in his division. He then went on to win first in district and advanced to the state finals, where he placed first. He received an award at the Reed Center in Midwest City. He was recognized by Alan Iven of the local district and his teacher Ronda Jinkens at the recent Rise and Shine Assembly held at the school cafeteria. He is the son of Christian and Sonya Carter of Okeene.

Beau Jinkens, an Okeene sixth-grader, was the winner of the Fairview Lions Club Free Throw Contest during the recent Fairview Lions Club Basketball Festival. He is the son of Mike and Ronda Jinkens of Okeene.

Okeene Chamber of Commerce named Dr. Fred Winters Dental Clinic as the March Business of the Month.

Twenty-three children and 10 adults attended Dr. Seuss’s birthday party March 2 at Okeene Public Library. They joined Cat in the Hat aka Librarian Lee Ann Barnes in the festivities.
