— Love happens in strange ways sometimes. Take the case of the harvester and the nurse.
Nate Magninie of Kimball, Neb., has been coming to Enid as a harvester since 1992. Now a partner in the company Moehr and Magninie, Magninie was with his crew in the summer of 2008 when rain delayed harvest. His crew came into Enid for dinner and stopped at Callahan’s.
By chance Enid registered nurse Dee Davis also was having dinner with friends and everyone was sitting at tables outside. Mutual friends introduced Nate and Dee and the rest, as they say, is history.
The couple wed Sunday in Enid and plan to leave for their honeymoon in Puerto Rico today.
Nate and Dee both remember that fateful day on June 17, 2008. They have talked to each other every day and have not been apart more than two weeks since that time. Each one has spent time commuting to see the other, and they met a few times in Kansas.
“We’ve been dating each other long distance for two years,” Nate said.
The two dated the remainder of that summer in 2008, and Nate came to see Dee on that Fourth of July weekend. They realized they wanted to marry just before Valentine’s Day 2009.
She will move to Nebraska to join her husband after the school year ends for her son, Seth, who is 13, and she will eventually sell her house in Enid.
‘We will continue to commute for a little while longer,” Nate said.
Nate also has children, 12-year-old son Tyler and 9-year-old daughter Sheridan.
He said the two boys have become buddies as well as brothers. Dee said Seth is excited about the move and can’t wait to become involved in harvesting.
She plans to try to get a job in Nebraska and already has had an informal interview at a local hospital there.
Nate has been harvesting in the Enid area since 1992 and has been rained out before. But June 17 proved to be a fateful day for the harvester and the nurse.
Things can change in a hurry but one thing hasn’t changed.
“He hasn’t made a Husker fan of me yet,” Dee said.
