2 Enid High individuals honored by Council for Exceptional Children

ENID — Oklahoma Council for Exceptional Children has bestowed honors on two Enid High School individuals.

Dusty Hugaboom, an EHS teacher, and KayeLoni Moulton, an EHS student, have both received awards for their outstanding accomplishments.

Moulton is the recipient of the “Yes I Can!” athletics award from Oklahoma Council for Exceptional Children.

The award is given for achievement in motor skills or a particular athletic activity through a setting such as intramurals, Special Olympics or physical education classes.

Moulton participates in several Special Olympics sports but has been selected to represent Oklahoma on the National Special Olympics swim team in Omaha in July. 

Moulton also participates in Special Olympics basketball, horseshoes, track and field, bocce and volleyball. Additionally she is a Spirit Express cheerleader and plays 4RKids softball.

Moulton doesn’t just like to play sports.

“I love to watch Minnesota Vikings play football,” said Moulton.

When she received her award, Moulton said she was wearing a new dress and felt “cute” and her mom probably felt “super” watching her get the award.

Hugaboom received his award for being an outstanding general education teacher, which is an award for an outstanding teacher in an Oklahoma public school who has taught in a general curriculum for at least three years and who has made a significant contribution to the education of students.

“It’s for working with exceptional children,” said Hugaboom.

Hugaboom teaches astronomy and biology at Enid High School and had letters of reference from parents and teachers sent to the awards committee after his nomination.

“(The letters) made me cry,” said Hugaboom. “It’s so humbling.”

Hugaboom said receiving the award was an honor.

“There are so many good teachers that teach at Enid High School,” said Hugaboom.

Hugaboom has been teaching at Enid High School for 15 years and returns each day because of the students.

“Really, truly it’s the students,” said Hugaboom. “I love getting to know the students. We have great students at Enid High School.”
