Rodeo slated this weekend in Fairview

Fairview Wranglers Rodeo Club has set its annual rodeo for this weekend.

According to President Terry Gould, activities will kick off with a pet parade 10:30 a.m. Thursday downtown.

A speech and modeling contest of queen and princess contestants will be Thursday evening.

Rodeo events start at 8 p.m. Friday at the arena southwest of the county fairgrounds.

Saturday, the club will sponsor a parade at 10:30 a.m. downtown. Following the regular rodeo events at 8 p.m. there will be a dance at the fair building starting at 9:30 p.m. Deanna Knapp, vice president of the club, said everyone is asked to wear pink for the Saturday night rodeo.

Fairview City Library is inviting kids who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade to come to “Splash Time at the Fairview City Library” 10:30 a.m. to noon the week of Aug. 2-6.

There will be a summer reading program daily, plus special events.

Aug. 4, two time capsules buried 10 years ago during the “Timeless Tales” summer program will be dug up and opened. Children present at the 2000 event are invited to attend to help with the digging. Memorabilia recovered from the capsules will be returned to its owners.

Following that, current attendees are invited to bring memorabilia to bury in a new capsule to be opened in 2020. The public is invited.

Aug. 6, magician Steve Crawford, will perform to conclude the week’s events. This show will be open to children of all ages and their families.

Parents are encouraged to pre-enroll by calling the library or coming by in person at 115 S. 6th, said librarian Ernestine Titus. To enroll or for information, call 227-2190.

The library’s summer reading program is sponsored by Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Fairview Friends Of The Library and Fairview City Library.
