It’s about providing homes.
Enid’s second annual Kites Over Enid event, coming this fall, will not only be a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity as it was last year, but this year Kites Over Enid also will raise funds for Enid Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
“Kites Over Enid 2010 will be a Kites Over Enid/ Habitat for Humanity/SPCA event,” said Stan Hicks, organizer.
It is hoped the event will be larger this year, and Hicks said organizers have extended invitations to several celebrities and have not been turned down.
“Our hope is that we can help to promote the event through our contacts,” said Vickie Fox, SPCA director. “We’re trying to help in making it a much larger event than it was last year.”
The fundraising effort will benefit two organizations that provide homes.
“(Both organizations) feel very strongly that we do the same thing. It’s just they do it for people and we do it for animals,” Fox said.
Enid SPCA is in its 12th year of operation, and Fox said on average they take in 32 animals each month and adopt out 30 animals each month.
“Our short-term goal is to try to make a difference in the unplanned breeding of animals in Enid through our low-cost spay and neuter program,” she said.
Fox said the organization has the goal of decreasing the number of animal euthanizations in Enid.
“We’re hoping to be able to make a dent in that number,” she said. “We need to stop the over-population.”
In addition to helping Habitat for Humanity and SPCA, the second annual Kites Over Enid also will bring awareness of wind energy in Oklahoma.
