Enid area teachers are invited to attend a free workshop for teaching the 14 areas of instruction of Oklahoma’s new Passport to Financial Literacy Act.
The workshop hosted by the Oklahoma Council on Economic Education (OCEE) will explore the benefits of using the newly revised edition of Financial Fitness for Life (FFFL) to teach students about subjects such as taxes, credit, savings, gambling, insurance and investing.
The workshop will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at Autry Technology Center, 1201 W. Willow.
The PASSPORT to Financial Literacy Act of 2007 requires all students graduating in 2014 to successfully complete 14 areas of instruction in personal finance. OCEE is the organization designated by the state Legislature to assist the Oklahoma State Department of Education in providing teacher training for personal finance. This workshop is sponsored by the Council for Economic Education and Bank of America.
Financial Fitness for Life is an award-winning personal finance curriculum that teaches students how to apply economic reasoning and personal finance decision-making skills to the real world of earning and spending money. Although this comprehensive program provides a variety of PASS-friendly lessons for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, this workshop primarily will focus on seventh- through 12th-graders to coincide with Oklahoma state requirements for teaching financial literacy. Each participant will receive a copy of the new FFFL CD and a copy of the FFFL book for their grade level. Additionally, teachers receive professional development credit and reimbursements for substitutes are available to districts that have teachers in attendance.
To register, or for information, go to www.econisok.org or call (405) 974-5343.
