An Enid man was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle accident near Okarche in Kingfisher County.
Andrew John Ritz, 44, was pronounced dead shortly after he was taken to Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
The accident happened at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday three-tenths of a mile north of Okarche on U.S. 81.
According to the report, Ritz was driving a 2001 Jeep south on U.S. 81 when he went off the road to the east, crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes. His vehicle collided head-on with a 1998 Ford F-150 driven by Eric Patrick Allen, 22, of Oklahoma City.
Ritz’ Jeep then left the road and rolled three-quarters of a time in the ditch, coming to rest on its passenger side, according to the report.
Allen was taken to Kingfisher Regional Hospital with head injuries and was treated and released. Two of his passengers reported no injuries and two others refused treatment, according to the report.
The report said seat belts were in use by both drivers and all passengers. The road was wet and it was foggy at the time of the accident.
The report lists inattention/other as the cause of the accident.
