EPD arrests woman following bank robbery

ENID — An Enid woman is facing multiple felony charges after a mid-day Friday bank robbery and police pursuit.

Barbara Schneider-Orf, 49, was booked into Garfield County Detention Facility on complaints of robbery with a firearm, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, resisting arrest and attempting to elude police officers.

Sgt. Dustin Albright, Enid Police Department public information officer, said EPD officers responded at 12:27 p.m. Friday to a report of a robbery at First State Bank of Pond Creek, 2112 W. Willow. The robbery was reported to police through silent holdup alarm, followed quickly by a 911 call.

Initial reports indicated an adult female had used a handgun to rob the bank, and then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No shots were fired during the robbery, and there were no injuries.

Eyewitness accounts led officers to a silver Honda and driver matching descriptions given at the scene. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver fled.

Albright said officers engaged in a “short pursuit,” and caught up to the suspect in the 200 block of South Coolidge.

Officers apprehended the driver, Schneider-Orf, 49, at her residence, 218 S. Coolidge, after the pursuit. An EPD officer broke the glass on Schneider-Orf’s vehicle window and pulled her from the vehicle at the scene. The officer received minor cuts to his arms from the broken glass while taking Schneider-Orf into custody.

Schneider-Orf was held on a complaint of attempting to elude police while the robbery investigation progressed.

During a subsequent warrant search of Schneider-Orf’s vehicle officers did find evidence of the bank robbery in the car, Albright said.

Officers also recovered the $5,000 in cash stolen from the bank, he said.

The new complaints are not Schneider-Orf’s first brush with the law.

She and alleged accomplice, Patricia Inez Horton, 45, were arraigned in February on felony counts of financial exploitation by caretaker and conspiracy to commit a felony. Horton was arraigned on 13 counts of financial exploitation by caretaker, and Schneider-Orf was arraigned on eight counts of financial exploitation by caretaker. Each count is punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

Horton and Schneider-Orf are accused of taking $21,547 from residents of The Living Center between July 2003 and July 2011, by writing checks from the residents’ trust account then cashing the checks and splitting the money.

Schneider-Orf was serving as administrator at the time and Horton was a certified medication aide, according to an affidavit by Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office Investigator David Williams.

Schneider-Orf is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 6 at Garfield County Court House on the financial exploitation and conspiracy charges. She is scheduled for a bond appearance Thursday related to the robbery complaints.
