Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive brings in collections to Enid SPCA bank

ENID, Okla. — The fourth annual Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive brought in nearly 1,700 pounds of food for the Enid SPCA Pet Food Bank.

Kyla Culbert, owner of Bark Avenue Pet Taxi & Sitter Service LLC and organizer of the drive, said 1,691 pounds of food collected was delivered to Vickie Grantz, Enid SPCA director.

“From the local businesses who donated supplies this year — Evans and Atwoods Ranch & Home — to those who hosted collection sites, your support is very much appreciated,” Culbert said, “along with a very special thank you to every person who generously contributed food and treats. Unfortunately, donations are way down this year.”

The amount collected was the lowest since the effort began in 2009.

“Times are difficult for many people right now. I certainly hope that next year is better for everyone,” Culbert said. “Donations collected, all of which are greatly appreciated, will be put to good use. It is unfortunate with demand being up and donations down, that the food just won’t last very long.”

Anyone who would like to make a donation to aid the drive can do so at the SPCA office, 1116 Overland Trail, by the end of January. SPCA’s number is 233-1325.

Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive is the concept of PSI — Pet Sitters International. It was created so professional pet sitters could organize pet food drives in their own communities to benefit their local animal shelters. Proceeds from the Enid drive will be available through Enid SPCA Pet Food Bank to residents of Enid who struggle financially to provide for their pets.
