ENID —
Enid will be host of a Tax Day Tea Party rally for limited government Thursday on the courthouse lawn.
The event will be held in conjunction with tea parties nationwide. The local event will begin at 5:15 p.m. on the Garfield County Court House lawn.
It will be the third such rally in Enid and one of five in Oklahoma Thursday. The others will be in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman and Muskogee.
Although this event will reflect the conservative values of northwest Oklahoma, said event coordinator Cordon DeKock, it is nonpartisan and locally organized.
Speakers will include Paul Allen, co-chairman of Advance Food Co.; Scott Pruitt, former state senator and candidate for Oklahoma attorney general; Michael Carnuccio, president of Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs (OCPA); and DeKock.
The speakers will address issues such as the expansion of federal government and regulation, increasing government debt and the recently passed health care legislation.
Petitions will be available for individuals to sign.
One petition will direct Attorney General Drew Edmondson to file a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the recent health care bill. Another petition will encourage a federal balanced budget amendment.
