EHS Project Graduation fundraising is lagging

ENID — Letters seeking donations for Enid High Project Graduation are about to go out, and the folks on the fundraising committee hope the letters hit the mark.

So far, efforts to raise $18,000 for the event are lagging, and the clock is ticking down.

Project Graduation, held at Cherokee Strip Conference Center, is a safe after-graduation party for seniors. It gives members of the graduating class an alcohol- and drug-free, fun celebration, where they are safe for the night instead of drinking and driving.

“It’s not just for a party,” said Mary Armstong, chairwoman of the fundraising committee. “It’s sad when you start reading reports of people who graduated and that’s the last time their parents saw them.”

Fundraisers held so far for this year’s Project Graduation include cow chip bingo, dine-outs and passing the bucket at ball games.

Efforts to raise money for the event began with the school year. Nevertheless, there is about $10,000 yet to raise.

A Valentine’s Day fundraiser is slated for February, and committee members are brainstorming for other fundraiser ideas.

Organizers need to have the money in hand by the end of April to complete needed purchases for the May 22 graduation party, Armstrong said.

Anyone who wants to mail a check can send it to Project Graduation, P.O. Box 1335, Enid, OK 73702.
