A Kansas man was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Kay County at about 8:03 a.m. Saturday, four miles north and two west of Ponca City.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Matthew Ray McLaughlin, 21, of Winfield, Kan., the driver of a 2001 Ford F150 pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries.
A passanger, Justin Wade Smith, also of Winfield, was ejected from the pickup and transported by ambulance to Ponca City Hospital in good condition, suffering from arm, internal and external injuries.
OHP said McLaughlin was westbound on Oklahoma 11 and crossed the center line, colliding with an eastbound 2005 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Linda Sue Cantellay, 58, of Enid. She was transported by ambulance to Ponca City with internal trunk injuries, treated and released.
OHP said Cantellay left the roadway to the right to avoid the collision, but the pickup struck the Freightliner and rolled several times, before catching fire.
OHP said Smith was not wearing a seat belt, and it was unknown whether McLaughlin was wearing his. Cantellay was wearing her seat belt.
McLaughlin was pinned in the wreckage for about two hours.
The condition of the driver still was under investigation, according to the OHP report, and the cause of the collision was the pickup traveling left of center.
