Holiday events approaching in Covington area

Community

Covington First Bank and Trust Open House will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Covington Fire Station.

Santa will arrive at the fire station at 1 p.m. Saturday at to greet all the children and pass out goodies. Turkeys will be given to some lucky adults. A cash prize drawing will benefit the children sponsored by the Lions Club.

The Covington Historical Society met Dec. 4 at Tri County Senior Center. Keith Bolz talked to the group about token collecting, in which businesses would give out tokens for various amounts, good only for that business. Keith belongs to the Token Collectors Club, which meets once a year in Covington at the fire station; Its members will meet again next March. Keith is one of the authors of the 2007 book “OK. Eronumia.,” which names all the towns in Oklahoma and includes pictures of the tokens given out in each town. The group voted to purchase a book for the Historical Society. Keith donated a good luck token from American State Bank to the Historical Society. In February, Keith will come back and speak to the group more about tokens and Indian Artifacts. Those present for the meeting were Herbert and Zoe Bolz, Susan Grantz, Dorothy Murphy, Melvin Carter, Gerald and Arba Pope, and Christina Rink. The next meeting will be Jan. 8 at the Senior Center.



School

The Wildcat basketball teams will travel to Aline-Cleo on Tuesday, with games starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Covington-Douglas Christmas program will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, with kindergarten through fourth grade participating.

The 5-8 basketball teams will host Waukomis starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.



Church

St. John’s Lutheran Church is having Advent services at 7 p.m. each Wednesday.

The combined choirs of Covington and Lucien United Methodist churches will sing the story of Christmas, “Silent Night! Holy Night,” in today’s 11 a.m. worship at Covington Methodist Church, and 9:30 a.m. worship service Dec. 16 at Lucien United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome.
