The Northern Oklahoma College Mackie Planetarium will be open at 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month for the public.
Admission is free, but a donation of a canned good or non-perishable food item for Horn of Plenty would be appreciated.
The program for December is “The Star of Bethlehem.” There will be two shows Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Come and learn about the star the wise men followed to the birthplace of Jesus.
-------
The peek of the Geminids meteor shower will be the morning of Dec. 13. This looks to be a favorable year for this major shower due to the new moon.
-------
Winter solstice falls on Dec. 21. The day is shortest and the night longest.
-------
Every Wednesday and Thursday, weather permitting, the NOC observatory will be open to the public. Sessions start at 6:30 p.m. Large groups planning to visit the observatory or planetarium should call 548-2399 to schedule an appointment.
Killam is resident astronomer and astronomical league coordinator for Leonardo’s Star Quest Astronomy Club and director of NOC observatory.
