ENID, Okla. —
The Wegener’s Support Group in Oklahoma is having a fundraiser Friday through Sunday at Oakwood Mall.
Money raised from the sale will help a 5-year-old girl from the Enid area with her prescriptions. The money will go into a local pharmacy account.
The girl suffers from Wegener’s granulomatosis (WG), an uncommon disease that affects about one in 20,000 to 30,000 people. Symptoms are due to inflammation and can affect many tissues in the body, including blood vessels (vasculitis). It also is considered a disease of abnormal immune function.
Treatment usually includes corticosteroid medicines, such as Prednisone, and other drugs that also suppress immune function. Relapses of the disease are common, especially if maintenance treatments are fully withdrawn.
The group had a fundraiser for the girl last summer to help pay to send her to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for treatment.
