ENID, Okla. — Enid Police Department is continuing its investigation into the Dec. 22 murder of a 24-year-old man.

Heath Crites was laid to rest Dec. 29 in Waukomis Cemetery.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation into Crites’ murder is ongoing, police officials have said.

“It is still an ongoing investigation,” Capt. Jack Morris said. “We’re using all resources available to investigate this crime.”

Morris said police are following all available leads, but said the department was not releasing any further information, because the investigation was continuing.

“If anyone has any information, they’re urged to contact the police department, or if they wish to remain anonymous, use Text-A-Tip or Crime Stoppers,” Morris said.

Police identified Crites as the victim of a murder that occurred in the 300 block of East Columbia.

Police received a 911 call at about 2:18 a.m. Dec. 22 of an unresponsive man at the East Columbia address.

Crites was found shot multiple times and lying in the living room of the residence, located east of Enid Cemetery and south of the Garfield County Fairgrounds.

An official with the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office said an initial report on Crites’ death would be available in four to six weeks.

Crites is survived by his parents, Starla and Raymond D. Smith of Goltry and Randy Crites and Jackie Duncan; two daughters, Alexis and Gabby; sisters, Tasha, Laura, Amand and Betsy; brothers, Ray, Josh and Brock; maternal grandparents, Ben and Carolyn Green; paternal grandparents, Robert and Barbara Crites.

Memorials may be made through the Alfalfa County Bank of Waukomis to the Gabby Crites Educational Fund.

The Rev. Dave Jones presided over Crites’ funeral. He said he knew Crites as a youth.

“He was a good kid. He was just a normal kid who liked his loud music and enjoyed that part of it,” Jones said. “I never knew him to hold a grudge.”

Crites’ MySpace page now reads “R.I.P you will not be forgotten.”

On the site, Crites describes himself as a “big-hearted” person. He also speaks of losing people close to him and wanting to start a family of his own.

“... ima enjoy every breath god gives me and pray for him to give me more i want to start a family ...,” the site reads. “ ... most my friends know me as cracker thanks to one of my best friends sean but to you others i go by heath heathy heathie ....”

Crites death was the second Enid homicide of 2012.

Robert Abraham was killed Feb. 14 after being kicked to death in the bathroom of a westside bar.

Grady Wayne Lewallen was charged with Abraham’s death and convicted of second-degree murder in August. Lewallen was sentenced to life in prison.
