ENID —
Stan Tatum is returning to his home state.
St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center announced Thursday Tatum had been named new chief executive officer of the hospital, effective May 24.
Tatum, who has had 30 years of experience in health care management, currently is president/development manager at Baylor Medical Center in McKinney, Texas.
He will be leaving soon to take the post at St. Mary’s.
“For me, it was returning home,” Tatum said of his reasons for leaving Baylor Medical Center. “I was born and raised in Tulsa and spent most of my career in Oklahoma City. I have a son in Oklahoma City. All my wife’s relatives and mine still live in Tulsa.
“Enid puts us much closer to family.”
Prior to his position at Baylor Medical Center’s McKinney facility, he was president of Baylor Medical Center in Garland, Texas, for about four years.
He also has served as chief executive officer of Edmond Medical Center and administrator and chief operating officer of Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
He earned his master of business administration at the University of Dallas and his bachelor of science in accounting at Lubbock Christian University. He also is a Fellow of American College of Healthcare Executives.
Tatum replaces Rick Wallace, who was at St. Mary’s five years before becoming chief executive officer at San Juan Medical Center in Farmington, N.M. in January.
Tatum said he’s thrilled to be moving to Enid, a city he’s been to a number of times.
“I think it’s a good size, so that it’s got a lot of restaurants and shopping and all the things you find in a major metropolitan area,” Tatum said.
Some of Tatum’s interests include fishing, hunting and golfing.
Cyndy Shepherd, spokeswoman for St. Mary’s, said she is excited Tatum is coming to Enid.
“We look forward to his direction and expertise,” she said.
