ENID —
It took 17 names being called before a winner of $1,000 and a trip to an Oklahoma state park was established Saturday at the One Grand Crazy Summer giveaway drawing.
Gloria Moncrieff, not only won the $1,000 and the trip, she also was the winner of an earlier drawing at the event for a $25 gift certificate to Dillard’s in Oakwood Mall. The drawing was part of the annual Crazy Days event at stores across Enid.
Enid News and Eagle, Eagle Marketing and Security National Bank employees worked together to draw and call names. Entry after entry was pulled from the hopper, with the crowd giving a sigh for the person who did not win because they were not present, until Moncrieff’s name was called.
While announcing the names during the drawing, Frank Baker, director of Eagle Marketing, joked there must be several independently wealthy people in Enid who chose not to collect their winnings.
Moncrieff said she was very happy to win the $25 gift certificate but when she won again, she was even happier.
“I’m shocked. I’m very happy and excited. My sister is over there and I was waiting with them and hoping for them. I wasn’t even going to get up at first because I didn’t believe it,” Moncrieff said.
Moncrieff said she planned to spend the money on bills.
“Probably on bills, bills always come first and maybe a little on the vacation. I’m so ready to go on vacation, maybe I will go somewhere cooler,” she said.
A $50 gift certificate to Oakwood Mall was won by Lyndel Mahaffey.
Entries for the drawing were available for the past month at 25 sponsor businesses around Enid.
“We are big proponents of keeping our local dollars. From the entries, people seem to like to shop the business that were involved,” said April Danahy, vice president of corporate communications for Security National Bank. “We are happy we were able to help with One Grand Crazy Summer.”
Following the drawing, Food 4 the Heart, an event with live music and non-profit and home-based business booths, kicked off at the mall.
“We really appreciate Oakwood Mall allowing us to come out here today to do it and kick off Food 4 the Heart,” Baker said.
