Contracts top city commission agenda

ENID — Enid city commissioners will discuss appropriations contracts with several organizations during their meeting tonight.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in commission chambers at the city administration building, 401 W. Garriott. A study session is set for 5 p.m. in the lower level conference room.

The contracts commissioners will discuss are with PEGASYS, Booker T. Washington Community Center, Enid Joint Recreation Triad, Enid Metropolitan Area Human Service Commission, Youth and Family Services of North Central Oklahoma, Main Street Enid and Enid Arts and Science Foundation (Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse).

The city has appropriated money to the groups for the 2011-12 fiscal year. The contracts “set forth the terms and conditions with which each local program shall comply in order to receive funding,” the meeting agenda states.

PEGASYS, Enid’s public-access television station, is set to receive $185,000 from the city, plus $67,000 for equipment.

Other funding amounts are:

• Booker T. Washington Community Center, $10,000.

• EJRT, $25,000.

• Enid Metropolitcan Area Human Service Commission, $7,000.

• Youth and Family Services, $7,000.

• Main Street, $37,000, plus $8,000 for corner node improvements.

• Leonardo’s, $25,000.

Other items on the agenda include:

• A resolution to execute an agreement with Oklahoma Department of Transportation to construct a pedestrian crossing and safe loading zone at Longfellow Middle School.

• A $1,596,582.26 contract with Cummins Construction to resurface several streets: Broadway from Grant to Van Buren; Willow from Garland to Oakwood; Richland from Cleveland to Van Buren; Taylor from Norman to Richland; Breckinridge Road from 42nd to 66th; 10th from Rupe to one-half mile north; and Heritage Trail from Double Tree to Willow.

• Reject bids for police digital ticket writers “due to unclear specifications.”

• A jail services agreement with Garfield County. The city will pay the county $108,000 to house city inmate at Garfield County Detention Facility. The city also will provide water and trash services to the jail.

• A swap of property with Enid Public Schools. The school district will receive the south parking lot at D. Bruce Selby Stadium, and the city will receive land south of Enid Fire Department Station 4, 2205 W. Garriott.

• An executive session to discuss three lawsuits brought by developer Bob Berry against the city.

During their study session, commissioners will discuss parking and site assessment for the events center to be built downtown under the $20 million Enid Renaissance Project. The events center will be built adjacent to Cherokee Strip Conference Center.

Commissioners also will discuss the electric franchise agreement with OG&E Electric Services.
