ENID — “Friday will be our biggest delivery day,” said Dan Long, of Uptown Florist.
Offices and places of business are the most common place for flowers to be delivered, possibly because, let’s face it, most women love a little public token of their significant other’s undying devotion.
“Wives like to get them at the place of employment,” said Ron Bartlett, of Huff-man Floral. “Most of the orders we are getting are for Thursday or Friday.”
“Our biggest delivery day is definitely going to be Friday,” said Ryan Fossett, of Enid Floral.
Saturday will yield more home deliveries.
“We’ll do mostly homes on Saturday and some businesses,” Long said.
Whether you plan to have valentine flowers delivered Friday or Saturday, it still is important to plan ahead.
“We definitely encourage people to order in advance,” Fossett said.
Roses still are the most popular choice for Valentine’s Day flowers but definitely not the only option.
“Roses are very popular,” Long said. “Probably the second choice would be tulips.”
“Roses account for probably 60 percent of the sales,” Fossett said. “Mixed arrangements are also definitely of desire.”
A mixed arrangement, which includes some roses mixed with other flowers, may save the consumer a little money, Long said.
No matter what type of flower is chosen, most Valentine’s flowers have one thing in common.
“More so, it’s a color thing than the specific flower,” Fossett said.
Pink, red and white dominate the holiday but, for those who might be a little more creative, bright green, orange and yellow are some of the popular alternatives.
Florists may notice a slight dip in Valentine’s sales be-cause the holiday falls on Sunday, which gives those who want to celebrate on the day of the holiday a chance to shop around and think of gifts other than flowers.
“It does affect us somewhat,” said Long, who still expects to have a busy week.
“We’re bringing in plenty of extra people for deliveries,” Bartlett said.
Fossett said Enid Floral plans to be open for a few hours on Sunday but will be doing most deliveries Friday and Saturday.
Long and Bartlett both said it is hard to find people at home on Sundays to make flower deliveries.
Those who want to send a gift other than flowers still can check the local florists for candy, stuffed animals, balloons, plants and more.
