Traffic snarl: 2-vehicle crash ties up Garriott, injures one man

ENID, Okla. — An unknown medical event led to a two-vehicle collision Thursday in the 2200 block of West Garriott, that sent a vehicle atop a fence and snarled traffic for a time.

Ricky L. Romary, 53, of Midland, Texas, was taken by Life EMS to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center following the 12:23 p.m. collision with an incapacitating back injury, according to an Enid Police Department report.

Officer Andy Morris found Romary and Tem E. McKee, 53, of Elmore City, were both westbound in the outside lane of Garriott, when McKee’s 2009 Chevy pickup was hit from behind by Romary’s 2013 Ford Explorer. Romary’s vehicle then went across all lanes of traffic.

An investigation found Romary hit the south curb of Garriott prior to impacting the back of McKee’s truck. Romary continued across Garriott, striking the north curb and continuing into a brick and iron fence, according to the report.

The Ford Explorer traveled eastbound 135 feet atop the fence before coming to rest facing east in the outside westbound lane of Garriott, blocking the northbound lane of Hayes.

Romary told police he had been feeling ill earlier in the day and did not remember anything prior to the accident.
