Infant hearing testing offered

ENID, Okla. — The Integris Cochlear Implant Clinic now offers infant diagnostic audiological evaluations in northwest Oklahoma through the use of Tele-Audiology at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

The follow-up testing is for infants who do not pass the state-mandated newborn hearing screenings provided in all Oklahoma birthing hospitals. This service is available for infants referred for follow-up screening, babies who did not have a screening prior to discharge, and babies born with a midwife.

This project is made possible through a partnership with Integris Health and a grant through the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. The testing is conducted by an Oklahoma licensed audiologist who holds a certificate of clinical competence in audiology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association. Dr. Sandra Over monitors and supervises the use of a two-way interactive HD video conferencing system and provides feedback throughout the testing procedure. The Integris TeleHealth Network is approved by the Oklahoma Health Care Authority and meets all security standards for the protection of private health information.

The goal of the TeleAudiology program at the Integris Cochlear Implant Clinic is to ensure every newborn in Oklahoma with a possible hearing loss is identified as early as possible and appropriate action is taken.

Appointments are available on the first and third Thursday of every month at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center, 600 S. Monroe.
