A Gore woman was critically injured Thursday morning in a motorcycle accident in Kingfisher County.
Sheila Hendryx, 44, was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Center with head and internal injuries, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report. She was in critical condition Friday afternoon, according to Cyndy Shepherd, St. Mary’s corporate communications director.
The accident happened at 9:20 a.m. four miles west of Hennessey on Oklahoma 51.
According to the report, Hendryx was riding a 2005 Harley-Davidson Sportster west on Oklahoma 51. Harry Hendryx, 47, of Covington, was riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson Road King west, as well. He attempted to pass traffic, according to the report, but decided he didn’t have room and attempted to get back in the westbound lane. When he did, according to the report, he was hit from behind by Sheila Hendryx’s motorcycle.
The impact caused her motorcycle to flip, and it slid for 110 feet before she was thrown off. The motorcycle continued for another 30 feet before ending up in a ditch, according to the report.
Harry Hendryx was wearing a helmet, according to the report, but Sheila Hendryx was not. He was not injured.
The report listed unsafe speed as the cause of the accident.
