ENID — A Spencer man arrested by police over the weekend and allegedly found in possession of crack, methamphetamine and marijuana is being held in lieu of $250,000 bond.
Rickey McCarty, also known as G, was charged with trafficking in illegal drugs, unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance, subsequent offense.
McCarty is charged with the three felonies all after former conviction of six felonies. He faces life without parole on the trafficking charge and six years to life on the remaining charges.
During McCarty’s arraignment Thursday morning, Assistant District Attorney Mike Fields requested $250,000 bond, noting the charges and affidavit accused McCarty of being found in possession of “10 times the trafficking weight” of crack cocaine.
McCarty asked Special District Judge Paul Woodward for “a little leniency” in his bond amount, requesting a $50,000 or $100,000 bond.
Woodward denied McCarty’s request but said, “I will entertain a bond reduction hearing if you want to speak with an attorney and set that up.”
McCarty, 30, was arrested Saturday night at Holiday Motel, 2712 Rock Island Blvd., when officers went to his room after being told drugs were being sold there.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, when Enid Police Department officers knocked on McCarty’s door at the motel they could detect an odor of marijuana. An officer saw a small rock-like substance on a counter in the room from the doorway and when they entered the room they saw a marijuana cigarette on an end table near the bed, where a 16-year-old girl was sitting, according to the affidavit.
An undercover narcotics detective told McCarty police had received information drugs were being sold from the room, specifically crack cocaine, according to the affidavit. He told McCarty he was being placed under arrest for possession of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana because both were in plain sight in the room.
Officer Court Bonnett saw a can less than a foot inside the doorway of the room. Bonnett saw the can had a false bottom, and he unscrewed the can and found a bag of crack cocaine and methamphetamine inside, according to the affidavit. McCarty immediately told police the items were not his and someone must have left the can, according to the affidavit.
During a check for warrants, the undercover detective overheard McCarty tell the girl to take the drugs because she was a juvenile and nothing would happen to her, according to the affidavit. When police interviewed the girl, she said McCarty told her if she did not take possession of the drugs he would come back and take care of her and she would be sorry.
Police seized 63.7 grams of crack cocaine, with a street value of $6,400; 18.1 grams of methamphetamine, with a street value of $2,000; and 0.8 grams of marijuana from the room.
McCarty was ordered to return to court March 8 for a bond appearance.
