Explosion damages Enid auto business
ENID — An Enid business was damaged Tuesday afternoon when gas fumes ignited in an auto repair shop in the 1300 block of North Grand. There were no injuries.
Enid Fire Marshal Ken Helms said the proprietor of Rainbow Auto, David Nichols, and an employee, Eric Stout, were removing gasoline from a fuel tank when an accumulation of vapor ignited. The fire spread to nearby open cans of fuel, which also caught fire.
Helms said the fuel tank was removed from the building, but they were unable to move the cans of fuel. There was damage to about three vehicles in the shop and to the structure, which is owned by Arlen Potter.
“It wasn’t a forceful explosion. Gasoline vapors ignited,” Helms said.
Damage is undetermined.
