ENID — An important change to the Medicare law effective Jan. 1 makes it easier to qualify for extra help with Medicare prescription drug plan costs.
Social Security Administration has launched a campaign to locate Medicare beneficiaries in north central Oklahoma who qualify for extra help because of the changes in the law.
Social Security Admin-istration District Manager Richard Black and his staff will be at Autry Technology Center, 1201 W. Willow, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to-day to take the “Extra Help” applications. In Oklahoma, 125,475 people with Medicare already qualify for extra help with prescription drug costs, but there are many in north central Oklahoma unaware they may be eligible for extra help.
People who qualify for extra help will get help paying the monthly premium, yearly deductible and prescription co-payments. The “Extra Help” program provides assistance to more than 9 million senior and disabled Americans, saving them an average of almost $4,000 a year on their Medicare prescription drug plan cost.
