Veteransread this! I agree with Steve Bradfore in his letter on Nov. 17. For years Enid has ignored the Veterans of all services. At a legion meeting in 1998, I asked why there were no Parades on Veterans Day. I was told that it had been years since Enid had a Veterans Day Parade. Our post Commander suggested that we do something about it. John Yeager and I got together and decided that we would form a committee to organize a parade. We asked for one individual from each unit in the Enid area. At our first meeting I suggested that we appoint John Yeager as chairman and the committee approved. He served four years. John knew Veterans in most units. He put in many hours to get the first parade started. The plan was to have our first Veterans Day Parade in November 1998. We received no help from city hall. There were about 200 Veterans in our first parade. We had bands from two schools that played in the parade. There were less than 200 spectators for this parade. Lack of spectators has been about the problem each year since. It is important that we have all Veterans in this area show up for the parade. It is also important that we belong to at least one of the units in this area. Here is a partial list: National Association of Uniformed Services; Military Officer Association of America; American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars. I belong to the first three. There are 39 units that form this coalition. They have monthly meetings and decide what pieces of legislation that should be acted on by Congress. Then, send out letters to all members to sign and return to our Congressman. More letters, more pressure on Congress.
