DHS is a great government funded program that helps a majority of citizens in our community. It is a program that should continue on, but with better supervision of its clients, because of a lot of these people are abusing the free money. I see examples of this exploitation every day in Enid, be it at my job, the grocery store, Wal-Mart, at my brother's daycare, and many other places; I'm quite tired of nothing happening to stop this neglect of our tax money. Some examples of what I see are that a lot of these clients smoke, some don't have jobs or can't keep one, some have two or more children (if you can't afford one, don't have another), many have cell phones, some eat better than people who work for a living, and the examples go on. This assistance should be reserved for people who truly need the help. People who should receive this help are single parents by force, the ones who were married and their spouse just upped and left or died; for the ones who show they are really trying to make it, but it just isn't working out.
The way to stop this abuse is by making it harder to acquire and keep the assistance. One must be responsible by having and keeping a job; one must be limited on how long they can keep the aid, unless for special circumstances; a monthly budget for the client must be made and followed; a monthly evaluation of the client should be made, just to name a few.
Money is being wasted on gold diggers, and it needs to be stopped. DHS is not a privilege, it's help for the ones who need it. The people in Enid who abuse the funding should be ashamed. Our community needs to stop this abuse now.
