FAIRVIEW — Fairview will rely on quarterback Kaleb Kemp to make 2007 a reloading instead of a rebuilding year.
The senior is one of only two starters back on offense for the Yellowjackets, who were 7-4 last season, losing to eventual Class 2A state champion Millwood 27-2 in the first round.
Kemp threw for 1,100 yards and rushed for another 300 as Fairview averaged 22.2 points per game in the regular season.
He scored nine touchdowns and threw for four others.
Yellowjackets coach Chris Cayot said Fairview has some good young talent and some depth.
His biggest concern is inexperience.
The young talent, while promising, needs some seasoning.
Kemp can throw to experienced receivers in junior tight end Jared Penner, junior wide receiver Blake Fast and senior wide receiver Dillon Baldwin.
Senior Brock McKee is the most experienced of the running backs returning. Sophomore Matt Regier will be counted on as well, Cayot said.
Zach Classen, a 220-pound senior lineman, is a proven two-way player.
Other experienced linemen back are lettermen Tony Kliewer, a 180-pound senior; Tommy Regier, a 200-pound senior; and Jared Pembrook, a 205-pound senior.
Baldwin had 20 tackles last year on defense. That’s the most of the returning players for the Yellowjackets.
Baldwin also returned an interception for a touchdown.
Penner returned a pass interception for a touchdown, as well.
The Yellowjackets raced to a 6-0 start a year ago with wins over Mooreland 24-7, Thomas 34-6, Oklahoma Bible Academy 34-7, Perry 19-0, Hennessey 21-6 and Chisholm 31-6.
Fairview is seeking its fourth straight playoff berth.
