Birthday for 7/23/09
McKinnis, 90
Doris McKinnis will celebrate her 90th birthday with a reception for family and friends 2-4 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Fairview.
She was born July 25, 1919, on the family farm southwest of Fairview the daughter of Roy and Maude McKee Shafer. She attended Cedar Springs rural school through the eighth grade and Fairview High School for two years before graduating from Longdale High School in 1937. She received her nurse’s training at General Hospital in Enid and used her training in doctors’ offices in Oklahoma and Texas. She worked five years for Dr. Boughan in Fairview.
She married Harold McKinnis in 1961. They made their home in California, where she worked 21 years in an allergy clinic in Los Angeles and was active in their church and a ladies service club. He retired and they moved to Desert Shores, Calif. He died in 1998 and she returned to Fairview in 2001.
She has two sons, Clarence “C.A.” Pettit and Jerry McKinnis.
Hill, 85
Irvin Hill will celebrate his 85th birthday with a come-and-go reception for family and friends 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Golden Oaks Retirement Village. Cards may be sent to 512 Oak Dale Drive, Enid, OK 73703.
He was born July 27, 1924, on the family farm outside of Okeene the son of Jake and Molly Hill. He graduated from Loyal High School in 1942.
He married Norma Laubach April 25, 1946. They farmed in the Loyal area until 1970. She is deceased. He worked at AeroCommander, Benham & Hill GMC, Enid Propane and Enid State School for 19 years, retiring in 1992. He is a member of Family Life Missions.
His children are Mary Rozelle of North Pole, Alaska, Susie Lansford of Owensboro, Ky., Kathi Hittle of Ponca City and Lonnie Hill of Enid. He has eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
