Gungoll, 104

Thelma Jean Compton Gungoll celebrated her 104th birthday with a family dinner on Nov. 19.

She was born Nov. 19, 1905, in Bierne, Ark. She grew up in Broken Bow. She was the oldest of 11 children. She came to Enid in 1924 to attend Phillips University. On the way to Enid, she stopped overnight at the H.C. Lookabaugh Ranch in Watonga and learned the ranch was for sale, which resulted in her family purchasing some land and moving to Watonga in February 1925.

After attending Phillips University she taught at Freehome and Liberty rural schools, where she met Carel E. Gungoll. They married in 1929 and made their home in Enid. In 1964, she returned to Phillips University, earning a bachelor of arts degree.

In 1974, she decided Enid needed a youth shelter. She founded the Youth and Family Services Center, which now bears her name.

She and her husband spent all of their lives in the oil and natural gas industry. He died Oct. 10, 1984.

Her children are Myra and Lew Ward, Enid, and Carole Drake, Oklahoma City. She has six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.





Mott, 90

Lois Mott will celebrate her 90th birthday Dec. 2. Cards may be sent to Fairview Fellowship Home, 605 East State Road, Room 501, Fairview, OK.

She was born to J.O. and Jenny Brooks in Carmen, where she lived her entire life. She recently moved to the Fellowship Home in Fairview.

She married Clifford Mott in December 1938. Together they farmed and ran a custom combining business for 25 years. She was an active member of Carmen Methodist Church.

Her children are Ronald and Leota Mott of Enid, Darole and Judy Mott of Tulsa and Cheryl and Marvin Perceval of Oxford, Kan. She has five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
