Justin Kirby was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on Oct. 18 at Enid United Methodist Church.
In order to receive the Eagle Scout rank, scouts are required to complete the Eagle project. Kirby’s project was to place markers on veterans’ graves in Lamont Cemetery. Dennis Skaggs was offered his support and help with questions regarding the location of veterans’ graves.
Kirby began his scouting career as a Cub Scout with the Pond Creek Troop and received the Eagle Scout rank under the leadership of Tom Newby, Troop 11.
Getting to this point was no easy task for Kirby, with extra-curricular activities at school and 75-mile round trips to meetings in Enid. The Eagle Scout rank requires at least 21 merit badges, and only 2 percent of Scouts attain the rank.
Kirby enjoyed several Scout trips out of state, including an outing to a Scout Camp near Colorado Springs and a trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
He is a freshman at Oklahoma State University, pursuing an engineering degree in biosystems and agricultural engineering. He is a member of AGR Fraternity. His parents are Don and Mary Kirby, of Lamont. Grandparents are Clint and Betty Fogle, of Blanchard, and Norma and the late Don Kirby, of Pond Creek.
