ADVERSE VERSE

The view from that hill was lovely

With the sun all red in the west.

I sat and wrote pretty verses

That set me apart from the rest.

------

Then came a pesky mosquito

And around my head she did buzz.

She wasn’t impressed with my verses

She called me her cuzzen, cuzz, cuzz.

------

While swatting at my attacker

My balance I lost and I fell

I rolled to the fence at the bottom.

It’s barbed wire, the finest they sell.

------

My verses now seem so pointless.

That’s more that I’ll say for this fence.

If I ever get off this barbed wire,

Less verse and more common sense.
