Stephenson, 96
Violet M. Stephenson will celebrate her 96th birthday with a reception for family and friends 3-5 p.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall at Okeene United Methodist Church. Cards may be sent to P.O. Box 308, Okeene, OK 73763.
She was born Sept. 9, 1913, near Carlton, Blaine County, the daughter of William and Rebecca Harper Haigler.
She is a graduate of Southard High School and received her teaching certificate from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She started her teaching career in a one-room school. She later completed her degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She taught at schools in Broadview, Pleasant Hill, Arapahoe, Homestead and Okeene, completing 41 years of teaching of mostly first grade.
She married and moved to Okeene in 1937, where she has been active at Okeene United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star and PEO Chapter A.
She married William Carroll Stephenson Aug. 12, 1980.
Her children are Bill and Karen Barnes, Ames, and Bunnie Bond, Okeene. She has four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
