Anniversaries for 12-19-12

Phillips-50th

Mr. and Mrs. Morris Phillips will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a dinner for family Saturday. Cards may be sent to 217 E. Iowa, Enid, OK 73701.

Morris Phillips and Geneva Shaver were married Dec. 22, 1962, at the home of the Rev. Loren Jones by the Rev. Jones.

Morris has been a farmer in the Dover area and served with the Enid Police Department. He went into business doing lawn service and Genny’s Little Doll House Child Care Center.

Geneva worked at Garfield County Health Department, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Herzberg’s Department Store and was a teacher at Headstart at Opportunities Inc.

Hopkins-60th

Mr. and Mrs. Grant Hopkins will celebrate their 60th anniversary with family. Cards may be sent to 3019 Brooks Drive, Enid, OK 73701-7703.

Grant Earl Hopkins married Etta Mae Webber Dec. 25, 1952, at First Church of the Nazarene in El Dorado, Kan.

In 1952, they made their first home in San Antonio, where Grant was stationed at Kelly Air Force Base and Etta worked for Joskes Department Store.

Grant was transferred to Izmir, Turkey, for two years in 1956, where Etta and their first two children, Gail and Jerry, joined him. After his tour in Turkey, Grant then was assigned to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, where Glenda and Gary were born.

In 1967, Grant was assigned to a one-year tour in Takhli Royal Thai AFB, Thailand, where he received the Bronze Star.

Etta and their four children moved to Bartlesville, to live with her family during Grants tour in Thailand. Etta earned her cosmetology license at that time.

After Grant returned from Thailand in 1968, they were assigned to McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kan., where he retired as senior master sergeant in 1972.

Grant and Etta then moved to the family farm in Jet with their four children. Etta worked for the tag agency and Diller Insurance in Nash and the Jet city clerk’s office.

Grant worked for the co-op in Jet until his retirement in 1992. They moved to Enid in 1994. He currently volunteers at Our Daily Bread, and works part time for the Garfield County Sheriffs Dare Office.

They attend Willow View United Methodist Church and are members of the Moose Lodge.  

Their children are Gail and Norman Brown, Oklahoma City; Jerry and Carla Hopkins and Glenda and Steven Aebi, all of Enid; and Gary and Gwendolyn Hopkins, The Colony, Texas.  They have six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
