Authorities seek man; schools locked down

DRUMMOND, Okla. — Three area school districts went into precautionary lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a man’s appearance at Drummond Public Schools triggered red flags.

Law enforcement authorities contacted Waukomis and Pioneer schools, asking them to lock down the buildings following an incident at Drummond in which a man expelled from school 14 years ago showed up looking for the former Drummond superintendent, who is now employed by Pioneer.

Garfield County Sheriff Jerry Niles said the man who showed up at Drummond did not make threats.

“We have a subject that went to Drummond school and wanted to inquire about a retired superintentndent and was told that person was now retired and working at Pioneer,” Niles said. “He wanted to go over his being suspended from school years ago with that former superintendent. They gave him directions to get to Pioneer High School.”

Waukomis Superintendent Dale Bledsoe said the suspect did not enter school grounds or facilities.

“Everyone’s OK,” he said. “I want to stress that nobody was in the building.”

Authorities still are looking for the man.
