Monday forum to feature commission candidates

ENID, Okla. — All seven candidates for three Enid City Commission seats have been invited to a forum Monday to discuss their views before the Feb. 12 election.

Enid News & Eagle is hosting the forum at 6 p.m. Monday in commission chambers in the city administration building, 401 W. Garriott. The forum is open to the public.

The forum will be broadcast on PEGASYS, Enid’s public-access television station, and KGWA 960 AM radio. Complete coverage also will be available in the News & Eagle and on the newspaper’s website, enidnews.com.

Candidates for the Ward 3 seat are attorney Ben Ezzell and former city of Enid employee Eldon Stephens. Ezzell works as a bankruptcy attorney in Enid. Stephens worked for the city of Enid for 23 years, rising to the position of heavy equipment operator before his departure from city employment last August.

Ward 4 candidates are Loyd Kaufman and Rodney Timm. Timm is a farmer/rancher, operates a commercial trucking business and works for Lippard Auctioneers. Kaufman is a former Ward 4 commissioner. He was defeated for re-election by current commissioner Drew Ritchie. Ritchie is not seeking re-election.

Ward 6 candidates are Mickey De La Cruz, Joey Meibergen and Dr. David Vanhooser.

De La Cruz is owner of the downtown restaurant Pane Vino Wine & Steak. He opened the restaurant nine years ago after moving to Enid.

Meibergen is executive vice president of W.B. Johnston Grain Co. Meibergen returned to the family business after graduating from Oklahoma State University in 2004, with a degree in agriculture and natural resources and a minor in agri-business finance.
