ENID, Okla. —
After a disappointing amount of moisture fell from the sky in the Enid area Christmas Eve and Day, Mother Nature is again setting the region up for an Eve event this coming week.
National Weather Service has Enid and northwest Oklahoma with a 70 percent chance of seeing rain, possibly mixed with snow and sleet, on Monday, New Year's Eve.
The forecast starts Sunday night with a 40 percent chance of the mixture after midnight, with any moisture falling Monday wrapping up mainly before noon. there is a 20 percent chance of precipitation for Monday night on the NWS forecast site.
Enid and northwest Oklahoma is in extraordinary drought currently, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, and has been in that category for weeks.
Oklahoma Mesonet site shows the Enid area has received .09 of an inch of rain in the past month. The area has received nearly 23 inches of rainfall this year, which is about 12 inches less than the normal average, according to Oklahoma Climatological Survey.
