ENID, Okla. —
Downtown will be a busy place the rest of this week as events lead up to Sunday’s grand re-opening of Convention Hall, which could mean parking will be at a premium.
Keller Taylor, general manager of Global Spectrum, which operates Cherokee Strip Conference Center, Convention Hall and the new Enid Event Center when it is completed, said there have been questions about parking for this week’s events, culminating with the Convention Hall open house Sunday.
Access to Convention Hall will be through the west and north doors for each event, he said.
Parking is located at:
• The corner of Independence and Cherokee, immediately west of Convention Hall.
• Along downtown streets — Cherokee between Adams and Independence, Maine between Washington and Grand, Independence between Maine and Broadway, and Washington between Cherokee and Maine.
• The private Security National Bank parking lot at Maine and Independence, which will be available for parking for Friday night and Sunday afternoon events. A portion of the lot (located between the drive-through and ATMs) will available for today’s luncheon.
Events celebrating the renovation of Convention Hall include a ribbon-cutting luncheon today, Friday night’s Beatles tribute band fundraiser for Enid Arts Council and community open house Sunday.
The historic building at 301 S. Independence will reopen as Enid’s newest conference center. It will feature a 10,000-square-foot ballroom, a 3,000-square-foot ballroom and flexible space for either trade shows or stage presentations.
The big event is Sunday’s public open house for the newly remodeled facility. The open house will start after a Veterans Day parade beginning at 1:30 p.m. The open house will be 2-5 p.m. and include free food and drinks, family activities and performances on the Grand Ballroom stage.
“The facility will be set up in various configurations to show the flexibility of the rooms and their ability to host everything from holiday parties to birthday parties and retirement gatherings,” Taylor said.
Enid fire and police departments, Life EMS and Vance Air Force Base will have displays outside on Independence. BMX performances and bounce houses also will be set up to entertain the public.
