Okla. lawmakers begin agency budget hearings

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma lawmakers will begin analyzing the budget requests of various agencies during a series of meetings next week at the state Capitol.

Various House and Senate appropriations subcommittees are scheduled to meet over the next two weeks to hear from agency officials about their funding needs.

Oklahoma lawmakers are projected to have an estimated $170 million in additional revenue for the upcoming fiscal year, although the final amount won’t be determined until February. But Oklahoma’s Secretary of Finance Preston Doerflinger (DOR’-fling-ur) says agencies already have submitted requests for more than $1 billion in new spending.

Subcommittee hearings will begin on Tuesday in the House and Senate and continue through Jan. 31.

The 54th Oklahoma Legislature will convene on Feb. 4.
