ENID —
Waller Middle School is using creative measures to get supplies needed for the school’s programs.
Technology Students Association classes have been participating in a program through Funding Factory to earn points to purchase items for the school.
“We’ve been doing this same fundraiser for five or six years,” said TSA instructor Kevin Schanck.
By donating old cell phones and used ink jet printer cartridges, Enid and area residents can help alleviate waste while supporting the school.
The Waller TSA students send donated items in postage-paid mailers provided by Funding Factory and, by doing so, can earn items for Waller.
“We get points, and it’s credited to our account,” Schanck said. “With these points we can buy everything from camera equipment to playground equipment.”
The TSA students also have made a video to promote the program that can be seen at http://www.schooltube.com/video /8a19dc54bf39930a33f8/Recycle-PSA.
Some of Waller’s largest contributors to the Funding Factory recycling program are Collins Butler & Co. and Ameriprise, but any business that goes through a large number of ink jet printer cartridges can donate to support the program.
Old cellular phones also are a common household item that can be donated.
“Everyone’s cell phones, old ones, lying around in drawers (can be donated),” Schanck said.
Anyone who would like to make a donation to the recycling program at Waller can drop off his or her donation at the school’s office.
