ENID — Sooner Celebration

7:30 a.m. Saturday

Downtown Waukomis

Get in your car and head south to Waukomis on Saturday for the town’s Sooner Celebration and the wrap-up of the 57th annual Southwest Garfield County District Fair.

The fun begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday with the 5K walk/run, which starts on Main Street downtown. Other activities will get underway following the 5K walk/run.

At 9 a.m. at the City Park, the bank will be hosting a car show. Registration for the show begins Saturday morning, and all makes and models are welcome.

Also Saturday morning the bank lot will be hosting a horseshoe pitching contest. Following those events, there will be games for children at 10 a.m. at the City Park.

Later on, there will be more events to enjoy. There will be turtle races, a lawn mower poker run and a watermelon feed, all in the afternoon. The parade will be at 4 p.m.

The Sooner Celebration will wrap up at dark with a fireworks display at the Waukomis football field.

The fireworks display is being presented by Jack Warner Fireworks.

Fundraiser for Tyler and Bryce

5-9 p.m. Saturday

Oakwood Christian Church, 401 N. Oakwood

Come to Oakwood Christian Church on Saturday and support Tyler Zander and Bryce Gannon, two high schoolers who on Aug. 4 were working and fell into a grain elevator in Kremlin. Event organizers will be selling koozies, bracelets and baked goodies and giving massages. There will be other events, such as a silent and live auction, car show, live music, children’s facepainting and a drive-up donation area so people who have places to go can drop off a quick donation. Hamburger and hot dog plates will also be available for $5 each, and T-shirts will also be available for purchase. For more information, call 234-1267, or call Kathy Janes at 278-1986. Movie Night at the Ballpark

8:30 p.m. Tonight

David Allen Memorial Ballpark

Come to the ballpark once again tonight to see another movie played on the big screen. “Soul Surfer” will be this week’s movie. Admission to the movie is a donation to the Jayla Alexis Tuck Cancer Foundation. Movie viewers should bring their lawn chairs or blanket for field seating. Charlie Awards

7 p.m. Saturday

Gaslight Theatre, 221 N. Independence

Come one, come all to Gaslight Theatre’s annual Charlie Awards, being held 7 p.m. Saturday at the theatre. There will be 13 awards handed out, including: Best actor in a leading role, best actress in a leading role, best actor in a supporting role, best actress in a supporting role, best actor in a cameo role, best actress in a cameo role and best ensemble. Other awards will include the Ron O’Neal Friend of the Gaslight Award, Gene Riggs Technical Award, Gene Nash Scholarship Award and Toddy Award.  Also, an award will be given to the teen production with the best ensemble.
