The Pumpkin Patch

The pumpkins have arrived, and all sizes, shapes and colors are available at the annual Pumpkin Patch fund raiser at Christ United Methodist Church, Randolph and Cleveland. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. daily (open at 10 a.m. Saturday).

The event helps the church with its many missions and has become a community favorite for pumpkin shopping and picture taking.

The patch includes hundreds of pumpkins and gourds for purchase, and events and story times also occur throughout October at the patch. Story time can be arranged for groups by calling 237-3938.

The Pumpkin Patch will be open Halloween night 5:30-7:30 p.m. for trick or treating at several candy stations. Admission is free.

Tri-State Marching Band Contest

1 p.m. Saturday

D. Bruce Selby Stadium



The Tri-State Music Festival field marching contest is back by popular demand, but this time it’s going to be an autumn event.

The Tri-State Invitational Marching Contest will be 1-6 p.m. Saturday at D. Bruce Selby Stadium. Admission is $5.

Trophies will be given to bands based on their ratings, and bands will march according to Oklahoma Secondary School Activity Association rules.

Bands participating this year will be Kremlin-Hillsdale, Hennessey, King-fisher, Chisholm, Pioneer and Enid.

Railroad Museum of Oklahoma

Families can spend a fall day enjoying the hidden treasures of fascinating train displays includes eight cabooses, a baggage car, motor cars, a three-dome tank cars and others.

More than 1,000 pieces of railroad dining car china and an array of railroad memorabilia are on display.

Railroad Museum of Oklahoma is open 1-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 2-5 p.m. Sunday. Call 233-3051.

Watonga Cheese Festival

The 33rd annual Watonga Cheese Festival and Art Show kicks off at 9 a.m. today with an opening ceremony at Centennial Park, Main and Leach, Watonga. There is an art show — which offers collections of oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels, photography and graphics, plus pottery and sculpture — and one of the largest quilt shows in western Oklahoma. The Heritage Quilt Show will be located at the Foley Building at the Blaine County Fairgrounds.

Other attractions include two large tents of crafts, Made In Oklahoma Products and other tempting bargains. The Armory also features craft and wine vendors from across Oklahoma. 

The highlight of Saturday’s events will be the annual Cheese Festival Parade held at 12:30 p.m. 

Additional activities include entertainment throughout each day at Centennial Park, Classic Car & Motorcycle Show, Cheese Tasting Line, Merchants Cheese Food Tour, Cheese Food Contest, Culinary Food Contest, Rat Race (5K, 10K and one mile fun run on Saturday morning), games, rides and amusements.

Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $5 (both days) and children younger than 12 get in free. Go to www.watongacheesefestival.com for more details.
