Get out with student plays

Several school plays are on tap in the area for this weekend and next week:

• Kremlin-Hillsdale Public Schools will present the musical “Annie Jr.” today and Saturday in the old gym.

Tonight’s performance is at 7 and the Saturday performance is at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students.

“Annie Jr.” is based on the popular comic strip that tells the story of a Depression-era orphan in search of her parents who abandoned her years ago.

• Hennessey High School Chorus will present “The Sound of Music” this weekend at Hennessey Schools Auditorium.

The performances are 7 p.m. today and Saturday.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children younger than 12.

• “Schoolhouse Rock Live" will be presented by Enid High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Enid High School Auditorium.

Tickets are $4 for junior high students and older and $1 for elementary students.

The musical presents a pop culture phenomenon on the musical stage.

Tom, a school teacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching, tries to relax by watching TV when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music through such beloved “Schoolhouse Rock” songs such as “Just a Bill, “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction.

The show features Aly Gideon, Damesha Washington, Chelsea Glover, Nick Enabnit, John Burton and Mark Johnson. The ensemble cast includes Natalie Kuenzi, Katie Myers, Katie Huse and Hannah Doss.

Directors are Lisa Hamilton, Randy Johnson and Tana Germundson.
