FAA may close Woodring tower

ENID, Okla. — The Federal Aviation Administration may close the control tower at Enid Woodring Regional Airport if massive federal budget cuts happen March 1.

The Woodring tower is one of 100 targeted for closure as FAA makes plans to cut $600 million for the remainder of fiscal year 2013. The 100 towers to be closed are at airports with fewer than 150,000 flight operations or 10,000 commercial operations per year.

FAA also plans to furlough its 47,000 employees at least one day per pay period until the end of the fiscal year in September.

The cuts will begin in April and were spelled out Friday in a letter signed by Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and FAA Administrator Michael Huerta.

Wess said the photos are a way of preserving some occupations that don’t exist anymore. A photo is a memento that will trigger a memory, and Wess said people need something to take them away from the cares of the day. Here are a few of his photographs that hang on the wall of their photography studio.
