OKLAHOMA CITY — State Sen. Todd Lamb has been nominated as the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor.

Lamb, of Edmond and an Enid native, defeated four other candidates Tuesday to win the GOP primary election. He will face Democratic Sen. Kenneth Corn of Poteau and independent Richard Prawdzienski of Edmond in the Nov. 2 general election.

State Rep. John Wright of Broken Arrow came in second. Other candidates were real estate investor Bernie Adler of Oklahoma City, Bill Crozier of Hinton and Paul Nosak of Owasso.

Corn was the only Democrat to file for the lieutenant governor’s post, which is being vacated by Jari Askins, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.

Former state Sen. Scott Pruitt has won the Republican nomination for Oklahoma attorney general.

Pruitt, of Broken Arrow, defeated Ryan Leonard of Oklahoma City in Tuesday’s primary. With 83 percent of the precincts reporting, Pruitt had almost 55 percent of the vote to Leonard’s 45 percent.

Pruitt will face Democrat Jim Priest of Oklahoma City in the Nov. 2 general election. Priest was unopposed for his party’s nomination.

They are vying to replace Democratic Attorney General Drew Edmondson, who is leaving the office after 16 years to run for governor.

The Republican nominee for insurance commissioner will be decided in an Aug. 24 runoff election.

Former Insurance Commissioner John Crawford of Oklahoma City will face John Doak of Tulsa for the GOP nomination because neither candidate won a majority of the votes cast in Tuesday’s primary election.

With 84 percent of the precincts reporting, Crawford received 42 percent of the vote and Doak received almost 38 percent. A third candidate for the nomination, Mark Croucher of Jenks, received almost 20 percent of the vote.

The winner of the runoff will face Democratic incumbent Kim Holland in the Nov. 2 general election.

State Rep. Ken Miller has won the Republican primary election for state treasurer.

Miller, of Edmond, led the vote over former state Sen. Owen Laughlin, Miller’s only primary opponent.

Miller will face Democrat Stephen E. Covert of Midwest City in the Nov. 2 general election for treasurer. Covert had no primary opponent.

Incumbent Treasurer Scott Meacham, a Democrat, is not seeking re-election.

Republican Janet Barresi has won her party’s nomination for state superintendent of public instruction.

Barresi, of Edmond, won Tuesday’s primary election for the statewide post. She led the vote over her only opponent, former teacher and coach Brian Kelly of Edmond.

Barresi will face the winner of the Democratic primary, state Sen. Susan Paddack of Ada, and independent Richard Cooper of Ada in the Nov. 2 general election.

Paddack defeated her opponent Jerry Combrink of Durant.

The incumbent, state Superintendent Sandy Garrett, is retiring after 20 years in the statewide post.
