Doyle Wayne Hankins

SHAWNEE — Funeral for Doyle Wayne Hankins, 82, of Shawnee, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Shawnee. The Rev. Ray Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Little Cemetery. Arrangements are by Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee.

Doyle was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Seminole, Okla., to Cager and Edna (Simpson) Hankins and died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at his home.

He was a graduate of Varnum High School and attended Seminole Jr. College.

On Aug. 13, 1950, he married Louise Sealock in Little.                 

He served in the U.S. Army.

He played shortstop in semi-pro ball for the Seminole Oilers.        

For over 30 years, he worked for Jones/Laughlin Supply, which later became LTV Corp.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, being ordained as a deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church in Duncan in 1961, and then served as a deacon in six other churches after that. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He came to Shawnee in 1995.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Helen (James) Hankins; three children, Debra L. Hankins, Stanley Edward Hankins and Nancy Lee Hankins; and brother, Edward Lee Hankins.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Hankins of the home; sister-in-Law and brother-in-Law, Janet and Lee Tate of Tecumseh; brother-in-Law and sister-in-Law, Dan and Lana Sealock of Prague; sister-in-Law, June Hankins of California; nieces and nephews, Ronda Salas, Edward Lee Hankins, Jr., and Linda Hankins, all of California, Todd and Terri Tate of Shawnee, Dane Tate of Tulsa, Lance and Amy Tate of Tulsa, Danny and Angie Sealock of Earlsboro, Jana Davis of Prague, Shane and Davina Sealock of Oklahoma City; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children: 3800 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73112, or First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Shawnee, OK 74802.
