JB Boileau

Published 1-16-13

ENID, Okla. — JB Boileau went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013. He died peacefully in Enid with family by his side, following a stroke after a long and eventful life of 89 years.

Born Sept. 19, 1923, on the homestead in Dewey County to Zanny and Norene (Kopp) Boileau, he grew up the second of four children on a wheat and cattle farm in Putnam, Okla. Always hardworking and intelligent, he started at Putnam School at age four and later graduated from high school there.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942, and was later honorably discharged. While willing to dutifully serve his country in World War II, the war ended before JB was sent overseas. During military training in Yuma, Ariz., he had the pleasure of meeting Shirley Temple as she was dating, and later married, JB’s roommate, Hollywood actor John Agar.

JB married Lenora Yount on Nov. 11, 1944, and they were happily married for 41 years before her death in 1985. They had two sons, Michael (Mike) Jay and Jeffery (Jeff) Brent.

The family predominantly resided in Enid, but spent a few years in Clinton. They were longtime members of Calvary Baptist Church in Enid.

JB worked in the back office and in sales at Longbell Lumber Co. before and after his military service. JB later worked in sales for Farmland Industries, where he stayed until retirement in 1985.

In retirement, JB enjoyed playing golf; he even traveled to Australia to play courses there. He also enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and Reno, Nev., to play his hand at poker — and he usually won. He was involved with the Masonic Temple, Moose Lodge and American Legion, helping host bingo there for several years.

JB was a smart, business-minded man, staying current on news and politics until his final years. He rarely used a calculator and passed his mathematics and accounting acumen to both sons. He also completed a crossword puzzle every day.

He married Fran Krittenbrink on Feb. 29, 1996, in Pharr, Texas, and they lived happily together in Enid for nearly 17 years. They traveled to Arizona and south Texas annually in the winter for several years.

JB was a talented dancer, and he enjoyed dancing with Fran at the Moose Lodge, as well as with his wife Lenora on Saturday nights when they were first married.

JB will be remembered as a loving, attentive and fun father, who never missed a baseball or football game his sons played in, despite his years spent traveling for work. He had a good (dry) sense of humor and never met a stranger.

JB was loved by many people and will be greatly missed until we meet him again. The family thanks all of those who helped care for JB in his later months, including the staff and nurses at Highland Park Manor.

JB was preceded in death by son, Jeff; wife, Lenora; two sisters, Margie Jo Williams and Patricia Towner; and stepson, Tom Krittenbrink.

He is survived by wife, Fran of the home; son, Mike and wife Linda of Summerdale, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Karen Boileau of Enid; brother, Jack Boileau and wife Mary Ann of Thomas; five granddaughters, Andrea (Jon) Stone, Shelley (Russell) Deck, Laura Dawn Wyatt, Kelley (Heath) Satterfield and Ashley (Trevor) Hudgeons; five great-grandchildren, Gregory, Henry and Grayson Stone, Reese Satterfield and Quentin Deck. He is also survived by Fran’s loving and supportive family: son, Ted Krittenbrink of Chandler; two daughters, Cheri (John) Michael of Medford, and Cindy (Mike) Bobbitt of Lamont; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

JB’s family will receive friends and family from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. A family service will take place at a later date at Independence Cemetery, west of Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Legion Enid Chapter or Calvary Baptist Church.
