ROLLA, MO —
Riley Ogden Godfrey, 84, of Rolla, Mo., passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at the VA Home in St. James, Mo. He was born June 16, 1928, in Binger, Okla., to Loyd and Jennie (Thompson) Godfrey.
He graduated from high school in Nash, Okla.
On Nov. 25, 1952, he married Mabel May Harmon in Nash, Okla.
He retired as a major after 22 years in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot of B-25s, KC-97s and KC-135s, which included 141 combat missions.
His second career was as a cattle and crops farmer for 40 years.
His last wish was to donate his body to medical research, training and professional educational projects, in order to advance health care and improve patient quality of life. The family was able to honor this request with the assistance of Science Care Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel of the home; their daughter, Deborah Lynn Jaquay of Angos, Ind.; their son, Dennis Lee Godfrey and wife Christina of Southlake, Texas; three grandsons, Nicholas Godfrey, Matthew Jaquay and wife, Silja, and David Jaquay and wife, Jennifer; and three great-grandsons, Erik and Paul Jaquay and Corbin Jaquay. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law, Hilda Hope Crain of Helena, Okla., and Martha Jane (Bill) Yoss of Leonard, Texas, and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death his parents; one sister, Alma Brown; and two brothers, Hollis and Olen.
There will be a memorial service celebrating his life from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, in the chapel at the VA Home in St. James, Mo.
