ENID, Okla. — Funeral for Glenn Wampler, 78, of Cleo Springs, OK, will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2012, at Cleo Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Square Cedar Cemetery under the direction of Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Glenn was born July 2, 1934, in Sutherland, Virginia, to Gordon and Edith Wampler. He died suddenly October 1, 2012, at his farm in Cleo Springs.

Glenn attended Wise High School, graduating with the class of 1953. He joined the United States Air Force and served 20 years, retiring as a master sergeant. While serving, Glenn was stationed in Korea, Thailand, Panama, Vance Air Base and Andrews Air Base. He served in the Korean and the Vietnam wars.

In 1957, Glenn was united in marriage to Mary Jean Hamen in Enid, OK, while he was stationed at Vance AFB. To this union two boys and two girls were added: Charles, Clifford, Anita and Glenda.

Glenn retired from his career in the United States Air Force in 1974, and he and Mary moved back to Cleo Springs, Oklahoma. Glenn worked at Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Coast to Coast, then Gary’s Electric and Plumbing as an electrician. He retired from Department of Corrections at Crabtree prison in 1994. Mary passed away in 1998.

On July 2, 2000, Glenn married Verda Stubbs in Enid and welcomed her three children: Darrell Stubbs, Greg Stubbs and Sally Jenkins.

Glenn loved to play golf and enjoyed watching NASCAR on television. He spent many hours on his riding lawn mowers and loved every minute of it. He was an active member of Cleo Springs Municipal Board and served as mayor there for more than 20 years. Glenn enjoyed eating at Cleo Springs Senior Center, where he was sure to get a good meal and all the “news of the day.”

Glenn is survived by his wife, Verda; children, Charles and Kathy Wampler of Kremlin, Oklahoma, Clifford and Jamie Wampler of Fremont, New Hampshire, Anita and Doyle Munger of Enid, Okla-homa, Glenda and Ray Davis of Lawrence, Kansas; stepchildren, Darrell and Anna Stubbs and Greg and Dena Stubbs, all of Enid, Oklahoma, and Sally and Daniel Jenkins of Liberal, Kansas; three brothers-in-law, J.B. Hamen, Jimmy Hamen and David Hamen; sisters Nola and W.H. Wilson, Shirley Caudill, Louise Adams, Christine Adams and Rita and Willie Thacker; sisters-in-law, Norma Naugle and Retha Digman; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; two brothers; and one sister.

Memorials can be made to OMRF-diabetes division with Fairview Funeral Home Inc. acting as custodians.
